Advanced Digital X-Rays for Better Diagnosis
Digital radiography is the latest technology used to take dental X-rays. Our office uses an DEXIS electronic sensor in place of X-ray film, that captures and stores the digital image on a computer. This image can be instantly viewed and enlarged helping us detect problems easier. Digital X-rays reduce radiation by 80 to 90%, compared to the already low exposure of traditional dental X-rays. The system is even environmentally friendly - eliminating the use of chemicals to process film!
A full mouth series of X-rays is recommended for new patients. This series is usually good for three to five years. Bite-wing x-rays (x-rays of top and bottom teeth biting together) are taken yearly to detect new potential dental problems.
What Dental X-Rays Can Reveal
- Abscesses or cysts
- Bone loss
- Cancerous and non-cancerous tumors
- Decay between the teeth
- Developmental abnormalities
- Poor tooth and root positions
- Problems inside a tooth or below the gum line
Why Digital X-Rays are Better for You
Digital X-rays do more than just create sharper images. They make the entire dental experience safer, faster, and more comfortable. Because the images are stored electronically, your records are easier to track and share when needed. This helps with ongoing treatment planning and coordination with specialists, if required.
Patients also benefit from reduced exposure to radiation—up to 90% less compared to traditional film X-rays. The process is quick and comfortable, with no waiting for films to develop. Since the images appear instantly, your dentist can explain what they see right away and answer your questions on the spot.
By choosing digital X-rays, you not only get safer imaging, but also a clearer understanding of your dental health. It’s one more way modern technology helps us provide the highest level of care while protecting your overall well-being.

A Closer Look at Your Smile
How the Intraoral Camera Works
The intraoral camera is about the size of a pen, making it easy and comfortable to use. As the camera moves around your mouth, it captures detailed images of your teeth and gums. These images instantly appear on a computer screen, allowing you to see exactly what the dentist sees. By viewing these images together, you can better understand any concerns and be part of the decision-making process.
This technology goes beyond a traditional dental mirror. It allows us to detect problems that might otherwise be difficult to see, such as early signs of decay, tiny cracks, or worn fillings. Being able to show you the issue in real time also builds trust and clarity. Instead of just hearing about a problem, you can see it for yourself.
